Kerrang! 2008

I'm srsly, the last two days have been so amazing. Anthony Green-wise! Let me tell you guys, hardly a day goes by where I don't listen to this man's voice. I've got over 100 songs with his beautiful voice from bands like Circa Survive, Jeer at Rome, Zolof, Audience of One, Saosin, acoustic etc. We even cover a couple of his songs in our band. So obviously he's a total inspiration to me and I think the world of him. After all, his music makes me very happy!

I feel like my last blog was really distant, I had a lot to talk about so it was pretty impersonal. So I want to go over this again:

So like I said last time, for the two nights before last he has been sleeping at the end of my road because he would be performing with Circa Survive at last night's Kerrang show. I walk past the union quite a lot in a normal day so walked past the bus loads, but couldn't see him! Then finally, while I waited at the back of the union to meet with the art society he (and circa) walk up to their bus so I call his name and we get talking. Must've been there about five minutes talking about random stuff, where my house was, my band playing his songs, the tour etc. It was great to meet him again, last time I met him it was at their Barfly gig in September last year.

He told me Circa would play first at the show so I made sure I got right to the front as soon as we got into the show. They were amazing as usual, I felt pretty bad for them though, the crowd were so boring and not really into them. But to be honest, they were boring even for the main act. No movement at all really apart from the odd stupid pit-circle, I hate that crap. It was a pretty young crowd though, and I suppose they weren't there for a particular band so they weren't all that into it in general. Circa still put on a great show though and as usual Anthony was electric.

Just before they played their last song he thanked all the audience for listening etc, then he bent over, looked me straight in the eyes, waved at me and said "and thank you, man!"!! He remembered me from the day before and thanked me personally from on stage! What a legend! That was so cool of him! Later he was stood at the side of the stage watching Fightstar play. Speed pointed him out to me, I looked over and we waved at eachother.

Fightstar were alright... I bet my sister would be pretty jealous I got so close to Charlie from Busted, she used to love that boy-band. But now he was all deep-voiced and shouting / swearing, what a change of scene! I shouted at him to "do year 3000!", ahh he didn't hear though.

Coheed were the main act and they rocked the house! Still no reaction from the crowd, but musically they were so much better than last time I saw them. The vocals were amazing and the guitar work was unbelievable. They even had two female backing singers and syth! I sang every word.

Anyone who can play that beast behind their head is amazing if you ask me!

Dam good show! But obviously nothing compared to the crowds of Biffy Clyro (man, they get a lively crowd) and the energy of Circa Survive in Barfly. Because Barfly is so tiny Anthony was basically in the crowd, exchanging sweat, holding each other up and singing to each other face-to-face. I'll never forget that gig!

  1. That is a great story, when you get a during show connection with a band member its the greatest thing ever.
