I'm home (and Tenacious D)

and so sorry I haven't posted sooner. So busy! Let me take you right back to December the 15th...

It had been such a busy week! I had managed to finally meet all of my coursework deadlines, God knows how. We went out for a nice drink on Thursday. Jake's brother was down. He managed to nick a bar stool from the Pen & Wig! It's getting worse! It started off as a glass, a pitcher, a beer mat, a chalk board but now a bar stool! Hah!

Anyway, Friday. D-day. I got to the train station on time, but it was delayed 25 minutes. Anyway, whatever, I made it in time and Phil, Nat and Ria met me at the station. So good to see them again! It was great. We stopped off at the hotel first then got a taxi to the Birmingham NEC arena. It was massive! and great!

I couldn't help wondering "who could support the D?" what band could live up to that!? Turns out they got some stupid American comedian in.

He was terrible. Played on some old man theme. Told some stupid jokes about Diana and the Queen etc and shouted abuse at the audience. I suppose it got us fired up and ready though! And it was great to see him getting coined more than I've seen anyone get coined before (Worse than the Kinison!). He even picked the coins up after. There weren't any other supports, D were on for about 2 hours! After waiting ages the finally came out from under a quilt on a sofa at K.G's house! Then they got to it:

They started off acoustic. They even had Lee there! From the film!!

He got really involved and did loads of stuff: the devil, metal, mushroom, police car etc. It was really good! The whole set was like a story but it was different from the CD and the film!

Then they got some session players in and went electric.

The session players were amazing! On guitar: Jesus Christ anti-Christ, bass: Charlie Chaplin, drums: Kernel Saunders (KFC). They all did solos and were great!

Such an entertaining gig. We were really close to the front too! After the gig we went back to Phil and Ria's room at the hotel. Great to see them again! How weird is this: when I got home I get a MySpace comment from a friend of mine from John Lewis, she was all like

Just wondering if by any chance you went to see The D in Birmingham? and stayed in the Holiday Inn express hotel...?

I was a bit freaked out, I hardly know this girl! But turn out she saw me there cause she went to the gig too! Amazing!

The next day we spent the afternoon at the Birmingham Bullring - a massive shopping center! Full of foreigners though, it was weird! The car park was soooo busy! Phil was sat in the driver seat eating and people were getting eggy cause we weren't getting out of our parking place. Then some big motherfucker got out of his car and came over to Phil and told him to move! Bastard. Phil finished his food then moved. Some people are so rude! I was at Asda the other day, someone pulls out of a parking place, a pull up along side and indicate in, then some dick drives straight around me into the parking place! Argh! I couldn't find any lights to flash at him (I was facing the wrong way) so I reversed back and gave his car a good stare...

Anyway, the shopping place was amazing! But stupidly busy! We drove home and I saw my family again for the first time in six weeks. It was great.

And now here I am! I'm getting pretty bored back here! But it's still great to be home. I love it. it was my sister and Phil's birthday yesterday so I went down town with Phil. It was alright! Todd treated us all to cocktails! I had the lush Baily's desert one. Phil had a Campaign cocktail, that made him very drunk! I love drunk Phil though. I remember that.

This has been such a long blog, I don't feel I can give you as much as I should, sorry. I'll try not to leave it so long next time! How about I leave you with some videos of the gig to make up for it? Oh yes, my blog has gone high-tech!

Fuck her gently (encore) [2:14]:

Don't need a microphone (so funny in the film!) [2:09]:
