One Syllable: FEAR

It was night time, about half 11, and I was home alone. The other six guys were at the girl's house, so I was in a huge, seven bedroom, lonely, quiet house on my own at night. I don't really like being in situations like this anyway. Stupid things happen like I start thinking "What if someone suddenly starts frantically banging on the door!". Stupid stuff, I suppose I'm a pussy.

Anyway, quiet and dark, with lots of different rooms / doorways / cupboards in the house. Still alone, I lock up all of downstairs securely and go to my room, which is situated at the highest / furthest back position in the house. I was ready for bed so, as usual, I locked my door and put on a bedtime Scrubs episode while in bed.

Starting to feel slumberous now. But about half way through the episode I was startled by the clattering of something falling on the floor in the kitchen below me. Sounded like a saucepan or baking tray on the hard floor. I immediately jumped out of bed, paused Scrubs, and stood listening. I knew the others weren't back yet, but I just heard something fall in my kitchen. I tried convincing myself it was next door or something falling by itself. Tried to laugh it off with the story Jake told me about the ghost that lives hear. Then the stupid thoughts start going through my head again about banging on my door.

Next thing I know *SMACK* someone punched my door, hard. Surges of adrenaline shot through me. Someone was in my house and I knew everyone who lived here was at the girl's house! I saw them leave two hours ago! Who the fuck just hit my door? I couldn't stay in my room. Not if they're trying to get in. I ripped the weights off my dumbbell and grabbed the solid metal bar. I swept the door open before I had time to think. I didn't have a clue what was going to happen.

Then nothing. An empty corridor with several open doors / hall ways. Just as I left it. "who the FUCK IS IT!" I scared myself with how masculine and chav I sounded. But at the time I was so scared. This house is so big, they could be anywhere in it. Sneak out of a doorway, jump out of a room. What do I do!? Hide in my room? Call the police? make a break for the front door and run in the road half naked? Look for the rouge? I was crippling with fear. But then, movement at the front door. Key in the door, it swung open. Ali, my housemate walks in. Headphones in, chips in hand. In a world of his own.

"Ali, thank God. Who else is in this house? Where are the others?"
"Wha? oh, I dunno, no one's in here apart from you"
"Dude, someone just threw this bottle at my door and I heard stuff in the kitchen"
"Oh god knows. I'm going to bed"

He walks into his room and closes the door. But I was so glad he was with me. I honestly don't know what I would've done if he wasn't. I felt braver now, so I hold the bar tight and walk downstairs to investigate the sound in the kitchen. The door was almost closed and it was pitch black in there. I needed the light on. I slide my hand in through the door to hit the light switch. Pushed the door open and cautiously walked in. Looking round at the chairs, behind the door, walking into the center of the room. Nothing.

I walked a few more steps towards the breakfast bar when suddenly an explosion of people erupted from behind the bar screaming! I jumped a mile and froze, half naked, clutching my bar in the middle of the living room. It was all the other guys. Motherfuckers! They shit me up good and we all fell about laughing!

Such a relief though. That could've ended so much worse. I don't think I'll be staying home alone so often now!

Talking of hilarious, we all went to a comedy night last night at the union! The two comedians were brilliant! I really enjoyed it. I've wanted to go to a comedy night for so long now! Can't wait to go again next week!
